Berthoud ColoradoWelcome to Berthoud Colorado affectionately called the Garden Spot of Colorado. Driving down many of the towns streets with the trees stretching across to reach each other you can see why. 

Established in 1888. Berthoud is one of 6 incorporated towns in the Larimer County limits.  It has slightly more than 5,000 people who love the small-town atmosphere and rich cultural and historic roots. With low crime rates, abundant parks and open space and clean air, Berthoud is the ideal place to live, work and play.  Berthoud is located approximately 50 miles north of Denver off of Interstate 25. Take Highway 56 (exit 150), and travel west. We are located midway between Longmont and Loveland on Highway 287, and Carter Lake is located 10 miles west of Berthoud on Highway 56.

Local development in Berthoud includes a new campus for Aims Community College. Also the Lehman Communications Corporation has decided to make Bethoud their home. Bringing new jobs in the residents of Berthoud the publishing company speculates completions by 2009.

School District for Berthoud is the Thompson School District and is shared with the town of Loveland. There are two elementary schools in Berthoud and one middle school. Children from these schools attend Berthoud High School located on Spartan Avenue.

Children and adults alike enjoy the public swimming pool and recreation in Berthoud Park. There are no less then 10 parks in the town of Berthoud including a skate park!  is an excellent place to fish, relax or just enjoy watching the birds bath in the crystal clear lake.

History of Berthoud
 
Canopies of cottonwoods and lush grass meadows lured the first white settlers to the Little Thompson valley in the early 1860's on the heels of the Colorado gold rush. Many hopefuls filed homestead claims, but most bellied up and left the valley to hardier souls who ranched and farmed the arid prairie that straddled the rich river bottom.Berthoud Firemen

In 1872, a Central City miner-turned-rancher by the name of Lewis Cross set the stage for the valley's first settlement when he staked a homestead claim where the Colorado Central railroad company planned to cross Little Thompson creek....[more]
