That's why I'm voting for Boulder County Issue 1A in the election this November. Funds are needed to completely build out the Boulder County regional trails system for biking, walking and horseback riding. If this measure passes, Boulder County will have a world-class trails system. All new trails will go through a thorough environmental analysis. If this measure passes, we all will have the ability to bike, walk or ride our horse from Erie to Superior through Lafayette and Louisville along Coal and Rock Creeks, follow the Feeder Canal from Lyons to the Boulder Reservoir, take a safe path from Longmont to Boulder with a detour through Gunbarrel and Niwot if we choose, or take the abandoned Union Pacific Railway from Erie to Boulder, among many more.

As FastTracks becomes implemented, Ballot IA will help all Boulder County citizens to connect to the routes and to ride our bike or walk to enhanced bus-transit service all over the county. Join me in voting for a world-class trail system in Boulder County!

Transit plan is worth support

Trails initiative 1A.

Transit and trails address the needs of different segments of the population - but both work together to help reduce traffic congestion in Boulder County.

1A will link trails to create a regional trail network for transportation and recreation. As the city of Boulder improved its trail system, bicycling as a primary mode of transportation soared from 9 percent in 1990 to 14 percent in 2003. 1A will offer similar benefits to the residents of Boulder County.

This transit and trails initiative fills the gaps in FasTracks to complement and strengthen its transit services, not duplicate it. It will strengthen the ECO Pass program and add hybrid electric buses to reduce air pollution.

1A will expand special transit service to better meet the needs of seniors and the disabled. This helps them gain access to community activities, grocery stores, doctors and other important locations across the county.

1A is needed to address regional traffic congestion, to address the mobility needs of our growing senior population, and to connect the missing transportation links in the Boulder county trail system.

That's why 1A is supported by groups as diverse as the Boulder Chamber of Commerce, League of Women Voters,  Sierra Club  and community leaders across the county.

I urge you to vote yes on 1A for transit and trails.
